The Role:

We are looking for an experienced backend software engineer with a strong focus on security to work on our cloud operations platform, turning the best open source technologies into secure and frustration-free cloud services. You’ll be part of a team working on the Aiven cloud platform, ensuring its security, improving its scalability and reliability, implementing secure new features as well as extending our product portfolio of open source data technologies. There are a range of security-focused specializations available in the following areas:

Aiven platform generalist with security emphasis

General purpose development on the Aiven platform, focusing on security best practices

Identity and access management specialization

Specialist focus in secure authentication, identity, and access management

Secure cloud infrastructure specialization

Specialist focus in secure cloud APIs, IaC solutions, and custom orchestration

Secure cloud networking specialization

Specialist focus in secure cloud networking, VPN protocols, and tunneling technologies

What You'll Do:

Your responsibilities will be:

Writing high-quality, maintainable, and secure code, releasing and monitoring secure features

Performing peer reviews and participating in technical discussions both at the team level and among the product development engineering domain with a focus on security

Contributing to technical planning and backlog management

Ensuring the backend has strong unit, functional, and security testing coverage

Advocating for improvements to software quality, security, and performance

Contributing to secure feature design, system architecture, and product roadmap

Mentoring junior team members on security best practices

What We're Looking For:

Must-have:

Excellent development skills in Python

Strong understanding of security in backend software

Experience with SQL and secure database design

The urge to write automated tests, including security tests

Fluency in English, verbal and written

Nice if you show interested in one area (or more):

Identity and Access Management (IAM):

Secure identity management protocols like OAuth2, SAML, SCIM.

Publishing secure applications with Okta and Azure.

Secure Cloud Infrastructure Engineer specialization:

Cloud provider APIs (e.g., AWS, GCP) with a security focus.

Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions like Terraform and Ansible, emphasizing security.

Secure Cloud Networking Engineer specialization:

Secure Linux networking stack.

Enterprise website security:

Industry-leading practices, such as those outlined by OWASP
